Keep Twitter Simple

Six Revisions recent article “10 Features That Will Make Twitter Better” highlighted 10 genuinely useful features to assist your Twittering activites. Will they make the Twitter.com interface better? Maybe for a power user, but for everyone else they could make things more difficult.

Twitter as a website is perfect. It has a single point of input and a feed of other user tweets. So when you log in for the first time you don’t really need to think about anything other than answering the question “What are you doing?”

Any feature that Twitter adds to the interface should be useful to the first time user. Anything further should be tucked away in an “advanced” user tab, or better yet, left to the 3rd party apps.

The Twitter concept is simple, and the interface should reflect that.
